CARMEL VALLEY, Calif. - The grassroots campaign called "Citizens for Carmel Valley" has released their five endorsements for the Carmel Valley Town Council.  The matter will go before voters on November 3rd under Measure G.

All five candidates have been endorsed as supporting a "Yes" vote for the proposed incorporation.  Their hope is that Carmel Valley residents can gain better local control of land use decisions.  Citizens for Carmel Valley argue that decisions are currently being made 20 miles away in Salinas with the Monterey County Board of Supervisors.

Former County Supervisor Karin Strasser Kauffman is among the endorsements for Council.  She has live in Carmel Valley for 30 years.

Other candidate endorsements include Glenn Robinson, a professor at the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, who lives in Carmel Valley Village with his family.  Local business owner Robert "Larry" Bacon is also endorsed and touts his 30 years of financial experience working with Wells Fargo Bank.  Last on the endorsement list is Priscilla Walton and Amy Anderson.  Walton is a 22-year Carmel Valley resident, while Anderson is a long-time member of the League of Women Voters.

"Our voice as a community... is quickly being lost," says Robinson.  "This is what the incorporation debate is all about, saving the rural character of Carmel Valley and not relying on the supervisors from Salinas, Moss Landing, King City and elsewhere," added Robinson on Wednesday.

All potential candidates must request paperwork from the Monterey County Elections Office in Salinas.  As of Wednesday, not all endorsements had done so.  They have until August 7th to return the forms with the mandated 20 signatures to place their name on the November ballot.

Among the names not being endorsed by Citizens for Carmel Valley is Lawrence Samuels.  The Libertarian candidate has requested the necessary paperwork from the elections office but is urging voters to "vote no" on both the city and his candidacy.
