About Jake Odello

Dear Carmel Valley Residents,

10 August 2009

My name is Jake Odello.  Although I am strongly opposed to Carmel Valley incorporation I am running for Carmel Valley City Council. The purpose of this e-mail is to introduce myself to the C.V. community.

I am 18-years-old and was born and raised in this community.   I graduated from Carmel High School in June of 2009.  I was highly involved in student government and was well respected by my peers.  I was also the recipient of many citizenship awards.

Some of you may be familiar with my family and our artichoke business.  My family grew artichokes at the mouth of the valley for four generations.  We retired from the artichoke business in 1997.  My family cares extremely for this land and wants to see it protected for many generations to come.  I have inherited that same love for the land from my wonderful family.

I have always been interested in government and public service as a career. Although young, I do have real leadership experience.  I was selected and I attended the National Youth Leadership Council (NYLC) in Washington DC, and The Reagan Ranch High School Young Leaders Conference in Santa Barbara.  I also formed an Inauguration Club and helped bring a group of teenagers to the 2009 Presidential Inauguration.

I worked for the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea at City Hall.  There I worked for the planning and administration departments.  I was invited to observe Carmel city council meetings from the dais.  I also worked for the City of Salinas at City Hall in the administration department and fielded concerns from the community.  Currently I work in the administration office of Carmel High School.

I plan to continue my education inside and outside the classroom.  I have confirmed enrollment at the University of the Pacific in Stockton.  I will be starting my freshman year there in the next couple weeks.  However, if incorporation passes, and I were to win a seat on the council, I will return home and continue my general education studies at one of the fine local schools.  I will not turn my back on Carmel Valley.

I want to see Carmel Valley remain secure.  I will do my best to save and protect the stability of Carmel Valley as a strong leader representing the entire valley.

I want to thank you for taking the time to read this e-mail, and I hope you can pass it along to other residents of Carmel Valley to inform them more about who I am.  I welcome you to e-mail my campaign at HYPERLINK "mailto:odelloforcouncil@gmail.com"odelloforcouncil@gmail.com if you have suggestions or questions.

Sincerely,

Jake Odello
